Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of rare diseases that lead to changes in the skin, such as thinning or blistering. Minor traumas to the skin like friction, rubbing, scratching, or adhesive tape removal, can result in blistering in individuals with butterfly (epidermolysis) diseases. In severe cases, blisters can even form inside the body, such as in the mouth or stomach. Due to the distinct characteristics of wounds in individuals with butterfly (epidermolysis) diseases compared to other wounds, these patients need to use specialized dressings. Given the imposed sanctions against Iran and knowledge-based companies, Behyaar Sanat Sepahan Company has taken on the responsibility of producing dressings for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) patients to meet their needs. The company initiated its research on these dressings in the year 2019. These dressings are made from an electrospun polymer solution, with fiber sizes ranging from 500 to 2000 nanometers. Electrospinning has been employed to enhance the properties of the dressings. The produced samples have successfully passed biocompatibility tests and received approval from consulting physicians in terms of their medical utility. The most important features of this dressing are:
- High Absorption Capacity: It can absorb wound exudates up to 7 to 8 times its own weight.
- Appropriate Adhesion.
- Oxygen Permeability and Prevention of Contamination Due to the electrospinning of the dressing’s fibers.
- Hypoallergenic due to the silicate nature of the fibers.
- Thickness: The dressing has a thickness ranging from 1 to 2 millimeters, making it suitable for all-day use.
- High Softness: The micro and nano dimensions of the fibers contribute to its high softness.
