Super Oxide

In order for humans to survive within a confined space for a specific period of time, they require tools that can cater to their basic needs. This situation arises, for instance, when humans are about to spend time underwater or in space. As a result of respiration, oxygen gas present in the enclosed environment is consumed, leading to the production of carbon dioxide gas and moisture. Potassium superoxide is an important source for generating oxygen in air recovery devices and confined atmospheres such as submarines and spacecraft. These compounds can be stored in a solid form in air recovery devices. Potassium superoxide generates oxygen and hydroxide by absorbing moisture from the air, where the produced hydroxide has the ability to absorb carbon dioxide gas. Additionally, due to its strong oxidizing property, potassium superoxide eliminates airborne bacteria (which are the main causes of respiratory problems in humans such as allergies, shortness of breath, etc.) and harmful or toxic substances in the atmosphere. Hence, it can serve as a suitable material for air recovery devices.
